Create a Landing Spot by the Doordaily

You come in carrying a bag, keys, post, and perhaps a shopping bag. Without a place to put them, the dining table becomes the next available surface.

Choose a practical spot near your usual arrival route: a shelf, a tray, a hook, or a small cabinet. Keep doorways clear and don't place keys or valuables where they can be reached or seen easily from outside.

Give each thing a purpose

Keep the everyday items you need when leaving. Separate post that needs attention from things that simply belong elsewhere. Sharp tools, medicines, and batteries need safe storage rather than a communal tray.

If you share the home, choose an arrangement everyone can reach. Separate sections may be more useful than one shared pile. Agree on the places together and adjust them if they're inconvenient.

Give the area a quick check when it begins collecting unrelated things. Return those items before the landing spot becomes another place to postpone decisions.

A tray is optional. What matters is knowing where your hand will put the keys when you arrive and where it will find them when it's time to leave.
