Weekly planning
Where your schedule allows, give an important piece of work some attention before routine messages fill the morning.
You may know exactly which task matters, yet reach the end of the day having only worked around it. If mornings offer some control, try reserving the opening stretch for that task.
This belongs within your agreed working time, not as unpaid preparation before the day begins. Choose a length that fits your responsibilities. Ninety minutes is one option, with breaks; a shorter block may be more realistic.
Before finishing the previous workday, note the first action and leave the necessary files easy to find. In the morning, confirm anything genuinely urgent, then begin the planned work instead of browsing every routine channel.
Agree on availability and urgent contact with the people affected. Keep essential duties covered and change the arrangement if your role needs a different pattern.
At the end of the block, save your progress and write what comes next. You don't need to finish the entire project for the time to have been worthwhile. The useful result is that important work has somewhere to start before it becomes the thing you hope to reach tonight.
