A shorter list makes the next step clearer

Weekly planning
Where your work allows it, group routine replies into agreed times so messages don't interrupt every task.
Answering each message as it arrives can divide a day into pieces too small for the work between them. If your role allows it, try grouping routine replies into two planned windows.
Choose times that fit the people you work with, perhaps late morning and midafternoon. Check that the arrangement meets deadlines, service expectations, and your responsibilities before changing when you respond.
Let colleagues know when you'll check routine messages and how to reach you for something genuinely urgent. Support, care, and on-call work may need a different pattern. Two windows are an experiment, not a rule for every job.
During a reply window, handle short responses, record longer tasks, and acknowledge anything that needs more time. Don't promise an immediate solution just to clear the list.
Between windows, move routine channels out of view if appropriate. Keep the channels you need available. At the end of the trial, notice what improved and what became inconvenient for others.
The useful result is a shared expectation that creates longer stretches of usable time, without making communication unreliable.
