Afternoon: ten minutes with a paper book, not the phone

A daytime recovery routine: turn the screen off and read a paper book for ten minutes instead of scrolling. Separate from the subway-page and bedtime-audio stories.

오후, 폰 대신 종이책 10분

By afternoon the hand already goes to the phone. It is less about checking alerts than about keeping the eyes busy. This is a different seat from a side stretch or a ten-minute nap. Here you barely move the body. You briefly loosen attention that has been tied only to screens. Daytime recovery.

It is not one subway page. It is not bedtime audio. It is a weekday afternoon, beside your seat, reading on paper for ten minutes.

Why a paper book

If you stay on the same screen and turn the next work page, it can look like rest while the job continues. A paper book has no alerts and no tabs. Even a short stretch of reading can breathe at a different pace than scrolling. The goal is not a daily page count. It is pulling one afternoon slot off the screen.

How

1. Keep one paper book you are already reading (or a short essay book) in a desk drawer or bag. You do not need to buy a new one. It has to be within reach.

2. In the afternoon, set a timer for ten minutes. Close the laptop or turn the monitor off. Flip the phone face down or put it in a drawer.

3. Turn pages. Summaries, notes, and highlights are optional. If a sentence does not land, reread the same page.

4. When the alarm rings, close the book and return it to its spot. Do not open a feed next. Take a sip of water, then go back to the next task.

What not to do

Do not open an ebook app beside notifications. You do not need to stack a reading score with the subway-page routine on the same day. Do not move this into a bedtime bedside scene. Do not stretch the time under pressure to finish a whole book.

In one line

Afternoon: ten minutes with a paper book, not the phone. It is stepping off the screen and bringing attention back to one line.
