Well-being
Keep a book nearby and give one afternoon break to a few pages, without a reading target or another open tab.

By midafternoon, reaching for your phone can feel automatic. You close a work document and open a feed, barely changing what your eyes are doing. A paper book offers a different kind of break.
Keep something you're already reading in your bag or desk drawer. A short essay, a novel, or a book you've returned to before will do. Choosing the perfect book shouldn't take longer than the break.
At a convenient stopping point, close the laptop or turn away from the monitor. Put your phone somewhere you won't pick it up between paragraphs. Set a quiet timer if you need to be back in ten minutes.
Read without making notes unless you feel like it. You can reread a page, stop halfway through a chapter, or spend the whole break with a single passage. This isn't another daily quota.
When it's time to return, leave a bookmark and put the book back where you'll find it. If reading feels like more work today, choose another kind of rest. The useful question is whether the break felt different from the task you paused.
A book within reach makes that choice easier next time.
