Spend Part of the Bus Ride Looking Outside

A shopkeeper lifts a shutter, someone waits at a crossing, rain gathers on a bus window. A route you know well can still hold things you haven't noticed, if your attention isn't already inside your phone.

When you're safely settled, try leaving your phone in your bag for part of the ride. If you have a seat with a view, look outside. If you don't, there's no need to compete for a window or stand somewhere inconvenient.

Let the ride be ordinary

Notice the streets changing or the light on a familiar building. You don't need to name five senses or remember anything for later. Keep listening for announcements and use navigation or accessibility tools whenever you need them.

Ten minutes is only a suggestion. If looking outside makes you feel travel-sick, choose a more comfortable way to rest. You can also enjoy music and still glance up from time to time.

This isn't a better way to commute every day. It's an option for a morning when you want a little less input and a little more of the place you're traveling through.
