Earplugs

Leftover noise at bedtime can wake the body again. Earplugs lower sound first without rebuilding the whole room. They travel well when neighbors, hallways, or device hum linger, and help attach the sleep cue of a quieter bedroom.

Why earplugs

A quiet, cool, dark bedroom supports sleep. NHLBI also advises keeping the bedroom quiet. Footsteps, elevators, and device fans can linger even with the door closed. Earplugs are the smallest way to lower sound first.

Brand matters less than the cue of briefly covering the ears. Choose foam, silicone, or fabric that feels comfortable.

How to attach it to a routine

Right before the blanket, after Do Not Disturb and a sleep mask, put them in. Repeat the same order and earplugs become one step in the bedtime ritual. Do not force them deep. Taking them out can mark morning.

For naps, use the same pair on the sofa so “I’m sleeping now” works in daylight too.

Effects you can expect

Less sound at the ears before sleep, fewer wake-ups from small noises, and the same sleep cue in hotels or guest rooms. Less about perfect soundproofing, more about making quiet arrive at the ears first.
