Weekly planning
Plan the important details early, then use a final packing session to gather what you need without filling the house all week.

A weekend trip can begin spreading across the room by Wednesday: a jacket on a chair, snacks on the desk, a half-packed bag by the door. A final packing session the night before can keep the loose ends together.
That doesn't mean leaving preparation until the last minute. For an outdoor or overnight trip, check the route, weather, permissions, equipment, and your experience well in advance. Arrange any essential supplies early and share your plans where appropriate.
Work from a list suited to the actual trip. Gather the clothing, food, water, navigation, lighting, shelter, and safety supplies you need. Check batteries and essential gear rather than assuming they're ready. Put anything that must wait until morning on a short reminder beside the bag.
Try the packed bag and adjust the fit. If it's too heavy, review nonessential extras without removing safety equipment just to meet a time limit.
After the trip, unpack wet items, food, and rubbish promptly. Clean and dry equipment according to its instructions.
The evening session is for bringing an already prepared trip together, leaving the next morning with fewer things to find.
