15 minutes on a park bench: catch your breath in the middle of the city

Instead of the office during lunchtime, we cover a 15-minute routine that fills you with breathing and sunlight on a nearby park bench. City wellness doesn't have to be far away, and the same spot becomes your cue to take a break and changes your afternoon rhythm.

Take a breather in the city

Wellness is never far away in the city. A park bench within a 10-minute walk from the office is all you need.

If you eat lunch at your desk, the afternoon feels like an ‘extension of work’. Just getting outside for 15 minutes can change the course of your day thanks to your breathing and sunlight.

Tracking your workouts or perfect rest isn't the goal. ‘Taking a breather in the middle of the city’ is everything.

bench routine

A packed lunch or sandwich, water, and a light outer layer appropriate for the season. Sit and breathe for 5 minutes, walk for 5 minutes, sit and look at the sky for 5 minutes.

Smartphones only take one picture and don't scroll. The key is to put your screen down for 15 minutes.

Do not open your laptop or email while eating. ‘Just eating’ is the name of this routine.

same spot

If you use the same bench every week, that place becomes a ‘rest signal.’ The brain connects places and states.

If there is no bench, you can use the shade of a tree or a stone spot next to a fountain. All you have to do is keep ‘park’ and ‘15 minutes’.

If you tell your colleagues about ‘bench lunch’, the day you go together will naturally happen.

Weather Plan B

A window seat in the lobby on rainy days. On days with strong winds, avoid wind paths between buildings.

The important thing is to get out into the ‘outdoor air’, even for 15 minutes.

Even in Plan B indoors, if you can open a window, ventilate for only 5 minutes.

connect with afternoon

When I get back from the bench, I start my first pomodoro, 25/5. Do not overlap with the 15-minute lunch inbox—rest first, then process.

When I feel dazed around 3 p.m., sometimes just the memory of being exposed to sunlight in the morning makes me feel a little better.

For lunch tomorrow, pick a spot on the nearest park bench. 15 minutes is enough.

It is possible to take a breather even in the middle of the city. One bench seat is proof of that.

Sunshine, wind, and 15 minutes—just these three things turn lunch into a break.

If you find a park 10 minutes from the office in advance, you can quickly decide on Plan B for a rainy day.
