Spaces
Move the forgotten boxes and loose items off one high surface, then decide what truly belongs there.

The top of a bookshelf is an easy place to put something “for now.” Because you don't reach it often, a parcel box can stay long after you've forgotten what's inside.
Choose a time when you can clear it safely. Use proper access equipment if needed, keep the shelf secure, and ask for help with heavy or awkward objects. Don't climb the furniture to reach the top.
Bring items down carefully, then sort them where you can see them. Return things to their homes, recycle suitable packaging, and decide what you want to keep. Dust the surface using a method appropriate for the furniture.
You can leave the top empty or display a small, safely placed object. The point isn't that every bookshelf must have a bare top. It's that the surface no longer holds a pile you haven't chosen.
Notice whether new items begin landing there again. A missing home elsewhere may be the reason. Solving that small storage question can keep the cleared space useful long after the first afternoon of tidying.
