Room to sit down
If the table has become a home for bags and paperwork, clear one place so sitting down doesn't have to begin with tidying up.

You bring a bowl to the table, then look for somewhere to put it. There's the post, a laptop, a shopping bag, and receipts you meant to sort yesterday. Things left there for a moment have made sitting down a small clearing-up job.
Start with one place rather than the whole table. Pull out the chair and make enough room for a plate and a cup. Return things that belong elsewhere. Gather papers that still need attention and choose a time to deal with them. Moving everything to the next chair only passes the same job to someone else.
The place doesn't have to stay unused. If you work at the table, keep the tools together in a box or bag so you can move them when it's time to eat. If you share the space, agree on an arrangement that works for everyone rather than clearing away someone else's things without asking.
Once there's room, bring a glass of water and sit for a moment. The table can still look like people live there. It just helps to have one place where you can arrive with a meal or a drink and sit down without first finding somewhere else for everything in your way.
