Everyday routines
Keep the tools for your next task accessible and move the things that make sitting down feel like clearing up first.

A useful desk doesn't have to look like an empty desk in a photograph. It needs enough room to use your tools and an easy answer to “Where do I begin?”
Take away things that belong elsewhere, then group the materials you use for everyday work. Keep the keyboard, mouse, and frequently used items comfortably within reach. Arrange the screen so you can read without repeatedly leaning or twisting.
Leave a usable patch for the task in front of you: a notebook, a document, or space for your hands. Keep drinks, cables, and equipment positioned safely. A lamp can help where needed, provided it doesn't create glare or make the rest of the room uncomfortable.
On the computer, save your files, close finished tabs, and leave the next document easy to find. You don't need to sort the entire drive before beginning work.
Before leaving, put the desk back into a state you'd be glad to return to. Keep personal details you enjoy and accessibility tools you rely on. The arrangement has succeeded when tomorrow's first few minutes can belong to the task rather than another search for space.
