Wind Down
8pm, a cup of caffeine-free herbal tea. A 10-minute warm ritual to end the day.

This is a practical daily routine. Use “End the day with a dinner and tea routine” as a small habit you can repeat.
If you drink coffee or green tea in the evening, the caffeine lingers until 4 to 5 hours before you go to sleep. 8pm is a good time to decide on your ‘last drink of the day’.
Herbal teas—chamomile, lavender, and peppermint—are caffeine-free. The very act of holding a warm glass with both hands sends a signal to the body that it is time to rest.
You don’t have to be a tea expert. One supermarket tea bag, a kettle, 10 minutes—that's it.
Herbal tea at 8 p.m. is not a magic that makes you sleep, but a ritual that sets the boundary of ‘end of the day.’
A caffeine-free drink, 10 minutes, and no screens—just do these three things and you'll start getting into an evening rhythm.
At 8pm, boil water in the kettle. Put the tea bag in a teacup, pour 80 degrees Celsius water, and steep for 3 to 5 minutes. It is better not to add honey or sugar.
Drink it on the living room sofa or by the kitchen window, without a screen. Slowly over 10-15 minutes. Inhale the scent through your nose and take a small sip. Once I empty my glass, I brush my teeth and head towards the bedroom.
If you use the same cup and the same tea bag, your body remembers that '8 o'clock = break time.' The scent of herbal tea itself becomes a signal to end the day.
If you soak it in 80 degrees Celsius water for 3 to 5 minutes, it becomes soft without any bitter taste. If it's too hot, wait and drink in small sips over 10 to 15 minutes.
If you choose one of chamomile, lavender, or peppermint and smell the same scent every 8 o'clock, the evening rhythm will become ingrained in your body.
Chamomile and lavender have a mild soothing effect. It's not a panacea, but it clearly sets the boundary for 'I'm done for the day.' The effects will be more evident if you drink the same glass at the same time every day.
Instead of herbal tea, you can just drink lukewarm water. The important thing is, ‘Do not drink caffeinated beverages after 8 o’clock.’
If you finish 60 minutes before bed, you will reduce the likelihood of waking up to go to the bathroom. If one drink at 8 is too much for you, start at 7:30.
When paired with digital sunset (9 o'clock), herbal tea at 8 o'clock → screen off at 9 o'clock → preparation for bed at 10:30. The evening rhythm continues in one line.
Leave your smartphone in the kitchen for 10 minutes while you drink herbal tea. ‘One drink + no screen’ is the key to this routine.
Peppermint helps with digestion and lavender helps with relaxation. If you set aside one tea bag and smell the same scent every 8 o'clock, the evening rhythm will become ingrained in your body.
If you connect the digital sunset at 9 o'clock after herbal tea at 8 o'clock, the evening rhythm continues in one line. Ten minutes of screen-free drinking is the key to this routine.
