WEEK PLAN
Reflection
This covers a 5-minute review before leaving work on Friday, where you write down ‘three achievements of the week’. Closing the week with a memorable one-liner, rather than a KPI or report, leaves you less looped in your head as you head into the weekend.

This is a daily routine for shaping your week. Use “Friday, write down your three accomplishments this week” to realign the rhythm of everyday life.
When you ask 'What did I do this week?' on a Friday afternoon, the only things that usually come to mind are meetings and urgent tasks. If you're trying to fill in performance metrics, retrospectives become a burden and you end up skipping them. If you set aside just 5 minutes 30 minutes before you leave work or before tidying up your desk, reflection becomes a habit.
The three performance red flags are not analysis, but rituals that close the week. Three lines of 'what went well'—each no longer than 15 characters. If you repeat this every Friday at the same time and place, you will see a pattern that repeats over several weeks. Unlike the KPI sheet, what you write here doesn't have to be reported to anyone.
In your notebook, write down three things you remember from this week. ‘Submit a draft plan’, ‘Adopt proposal at team meeting’, ‘Two workouts’—regardless of size. There is no need to just write ‘done’. ‘Had a difficult conversation’ or ‘tried a new tool’ are also achievements. The smaller the accomplishment, the more memorable it is on a Friday night.
30 seconds per line. When you feel like writing at length, the ‘three lines only’ rule allows you to finish your retrospective in 5 minutes. Set a timer for 5 minutes. If you write it down and think, ‘This isn’t an achievement,’ just write it down. It is the performance you define. Rather than a perfect sentence, one honest line will brighten the next week. ‘Difficult feedback was delivered’ is more memorable than ‘There were many meetings.’
If you wish, write 'One thing you regret' in the fourth line. Not required. If you write about what you regret at length, your memoir will become heavy. If you connect it with an action like ‘freeing up 30 minutes on Monday morning’, it will naturally lead to the next week.
After writing down three lines, turn off work notifications and change the Slack status to ‘Weekend.’ The final stage of retrospection is a signal to ‘let go.’ When paired with a Friday evening shutdown routine, the transition into the weekend becomes more evident.
Even if there is a Friday where you don't review, you just have to do it again the following Friday. ‘5 minutes most Fridays’ is more realistic than a streak. As the weeks accumulate, you will see ‘repeated achievements for me’ and ‘things that are missing every time’. Three lines stacked in the same notebook become your most honest record at the end of the quarter.
The three achievements are not a report, but a gateway to the weekend. 5 minutes is enough. This Friday, pick up your pen 30 minutes before you leave work. If you wrote one keyword for the week, write down in one line whether that word represented this week well. When you stack three lines, you have something to remember about your busy week.
