BREAK
STAND
Three minutes before you leave. Hold a desk or chair, do twenty heel raises to wake calves and ankles, then break the seated day and head out.

Right before you close the laptop and zip the bag, the day can still feel stuck to the chair. Unlike neck rolls or a mid-meeting stand-up, the cue here is the moment you are about to leave. Three minutes before the quit button, wake your calves and ankles.
Long sitting often stiffens everything from the toes to the knees. You do not need a brand-new workout. A light move that breaks a long seated stretch can change how the body and the day feel. WHO notes that any amount of physical activity is better than none, and that limiting sedentary time while replacing it with movement of any intensity helps. Heel raises are that switch, done beside a desk. No mat. No change of clothes.
It works best after the last mail is sent, or after you jot tomorrow’s note. Use the “I’m heading out” feeling as the cue, so you do not need a separate workout app. At home or in the office, make it the last move before you leave the seat.
1. Lightly hold a chair back or desk edge with both hands. Do not lean hard. Use the hold only for balance.
2. Feet about shoulder-width, toes facing forward. Soften the knees a little and feel the whole foot on the floor.
3. Rise onto your heels slowly, then lower at the same pace. That counts as one. Keep breathing naturally.
4. Aim for twenty. If you wobble, pause, reset your stance, and continue.
5. When you finish, take a sip of water or walk to a window, then grab the bag and go. The point is to treat the move as the closing mark of the workday.
If you are new or your feet are tired, start with ten. On easier days, stay up for one breath at the top. If your heels feel high in your shoes, kick them off or switch to a more comfortable pair. Habit beats perfect form: stand once and break the long sit.
One flight of stairs is a transit choice. An after-dinner walk belongs after a meal. This is a short body wake-up right before you pack up. Not exercise on the way home. More like saying goodbye to the chair.
If your feet hurt, shoes are hard to remove, or the space is crowded, roll your ankles slowly while seated. Ten circles on each side still close the day with a clear stand-up signal. Keep the cue (right before you leave) before you chase the full twenty.
Twenty heel raises before you quit. Break the seated day with your feet, then walk out the door.
