Clear the screen first
When your attention wanders, make one task easy to see by clearing unrelated tabs, alerts, and desk clutter.

When you can’t focus, it’s tempting to tell yourself to try harder. But if several tabs, alerts, and notes are competing for your attention, you may spend your energy deciding what to do next.
Pause and choose one task to return to. Close or minimize the windows you don’t need, put your phone out of reach, and leave only the things you’re using on your desk.
Write down a specific next step. Instead of “research,” try “find three figures in the existing document.” Set a five-minute timer and begin there. Your focus doesn’t have to snap back right away. For now, you’re giving yourself one direction to move in.
If you’ve been jumping between several things on screen, leave just one open. Focus doesn’t require a perfect setup; it’s easier to begin again when the next action is clear.
