Add a step; don’t rebuild the day
When you’re building a routine, attach one small action to something you already do each day instead of changing your whole schedule.

When you decide to build a routine, it’s tempting to fill the day from morning to night. But adding too many new habits at once can make it harder to know what to keep on a busy day.
Start with something you already do every day: making coffee, locking the front door, or finishing lunch. Then attach one action that takes less than a minute. Check one item on your calendar after making coffee, or refill your water bottle after lunch.
You don’t need to promise yourself you’ll do it perfectly every day. Try it for a week and notice which moments feel natural and which ones get in the way. If the step feels like a chore, make it smaller or attach it to a different cue.
A useful routine is less like a perfect timetable and more like a path you can return to. Choose one thing you already do and one small step to follow it today.
