Two hours without screens on Sunday morning

For two hours on Sunday morning, here's how to stop notifications and feeds and start your week analog. It's not a digital detox challenge, but a short break to close one week and open the next week lightly, and it also reduces Monday morning resistance.

healthy breakfast

This is a daily routine for shaping your week. Use “Two hours without screens on Sunday morning” to realign the rhythm of everyday life.

The scrolling through Saturday night has already set the pace for Sunday morning. When you wake up with notifications on, the rest of the week's work piles up in your head before the holidays even begin.

Two hours without screens is not a digital detox challenge. It's a short break to close one week and open the next, and it's the smallest device to reduce Monday morning resistance.

The more you repeat it at the same time every week, the more Sunday morning changes from ‘Do I have to work again?’ to ‘Taking a breather.’

First 30 minutes — Immediately after waking up

Change your alarm to a clock or speaker, and leave your phone on the charging stand in the living room. The first condition is to keep it out of reach in the bedroom.

Just drink a glass of water, open a window, and do some light stretching. Check the news, messenger, and weather apps after two hours.

Just listening to the radio or outside the window while making coffee is enough. The anxiety of ‘missing out information’ will decrease after just the first few days.

Next 60 minutes — Working with your hands

Choose between a paper book, a simple meal, or a walk around the neighborhood. It doesn’t have to be ‘productive’. When your hands are busy, your head slowly follows.

When choosing a dish, choose one that allows you to focus on preparation and smell rather than a complicated recipe. If I go for a walk, I just listen to the sound of footsteps and the wind without earphones.

I don’t use this time to make ‘to do’ lists. The list only has one line in the last 30 minutes.

Last 30 minutes — next week's one-liners

In my notebook, I just write down one line, ‘Things I want to keep this week.’ Pick just one priority, not three.

Only then do I turn on my phone. Even when you're bombarded with notifications, your body and breathing are already at a different pace, so you're less rushed to react.

The habit of writing down one line reduces the worry of ‘what to do first’ on Monday morning.

border with weekend

You can use Saturday freely. If you stick to just two hours on Sunday, the whole weekend won't feel like a discipline.

If you are with your family, decide to spend two hours each morning or take a walk together. If you're alone, the key is to repeat the same patterns.

Even if you can't complete two hours, you can just stick to 60 minutes. Rather than a complete detox, the goal is to have the feeling that ‘only Sunday mornings are different’.

Try again next Sunday, same time. Small repetitions change the way you open your week.
