Notice Three New Things on Your Commute

Find a color, a sound, and a small scene you haven't noticed before on your usual way home.

The Three-Things-You’ve-Never-Noticed Commute

The way home can start to feel like the same scene on repeat: the convenience store, the crosswalk, the familiar buildings. Today, give yourself a small mission. Spot three things you haven't noticed before.

They don't have to be remarkable. A poster on a wall, a flower that wasn't there yesterday, or the sunset reflected in a window all count. There's no need to walk faster or take a long detour. Look around as you go, keeping your attention on crossings and other people.

A small discovery list

First, find a color: blue on a sign, green in a tree, or red on an umbrella. Next, notice a sound: a bicycle bell, a bus pulling up, or a bakery door opening. Finally, remember a small scene, perhaps a dog out for a walk or someone waving to a friend.

When you get home, write down whichever one stayed with you. A photo is optional. You don't need proof that you noticed.

Start when you leave work or reach your neighborhood stop. On rainy or tiring days, finding just one thing is enough. A familiar route can still hold something new.
