Rainy-day journeys

On the move
On a familiar route, a bridge, building, or station sign can become another cue that you're nearly there.
Arrival alerts are useful. They're also easy to follow with a quick scroll that lasts until your stop. On a familiar route, try adding a landmark to the cues you already use.
Choose something visible before you need to get ready: a bridge, a distinctive building, or a clearly marked station. Check that you recognize it in the direction you're traveling and in the conditions you usually encounter.
Leave your arrival alert on if it helps, and keep listening to announcements. Scenery changes, windows get blocked, and darkness can make a familiar landmark disappear. This isn't a test of how little help you need.
When the landmark appears, finish what you're doing and prepare your belongings. Wait until it's safe to stand and approach the exit. Don't rush through a crowded vehicle to keep a new routine.
Try it on one regular journey rather than an unfamiliar line. The pleasure is in recognizing where you are, not replacing useful navigation with a rule. Your phone can stay a tool while the route becomes a little more familiar.
