Rainy-day journeys

On the move
While safely seated or waiting, give your eyes a short break from close-up screens and look into the distance.

On a train or bus, your view can shrink to the distance between your face and your phone. The route continues outside while your eyes move from one small piece of text to the next.
When you're safely seated or standing still, put the phone down and look at something farther away. A building across the street, the end of a platform, or a distant tree will do. Avoid staring at the sun or straining to make a blurry object sharp.
Spend roughly twenty seconds looking around without reading another nearby screen. Blink naturally and let the pause stay ordinary. You don't need a timer or a photo of the view.
Keep your attention on your surroundings when walking, crossing a road, boarding, or getting off. Skip the exercise if the vehicle's movement makes looking outside uncomfortable.
This is a screen break, not a way to correct eyesight or treat persistent eye symptoms. It simply gives a commute that often happens at phone distance a wider view for a moment. Try it once at a stop you already know.
