On the move
When the route and your body allow it, choose one manageable flight of stairs instead of the escalator.

At your usual station, your feet may head toward the escalator before you think about it. On a day when you're comfortable and carrying little, look for a manageable stair route beside it.
You don't have to change every journey. Choose one short section with clear steps, good lighting, and a handrail. Take your phone out of your hand, allow other people space, and move at a pace that feels steady.
Skip the stairs when you're tired, in pain, unsteady, carrying heavy bags, or dealing with a crowded or slippery route. Going down isn't automatically easier on sore knees. Use the lift or escalator whenever it better meets your needs.
If you try the stairs, pause at a safe landing if needed rather than hurrying to keep up with others. Stop for pain, dizziness, or unusual breathlessness.
This is an option for adding a little movement to a familiar journey. It doesn't need a streak, a step-count target, or a promise never to take the escalator again. Tomorrow, you can choose the route that suits that day.
