Rainy-day journeys

On the move
Choose an album and give its track order a little attention, without searching for the next thing to play.
You may know a song by heart without having heard the tracks around it. This weekend, try playing an album from the beginning, with shuffle off.
Choose something familiar or something a friend recommended. Don't spend the whole afternoon finding the perfect choice. A record you already own or an album saved in your library is a good place to begin.
Sit somewhere comfortable or pair the music with a simple activity that doesn't take all your attention. Keep the volume comfortable, and pause if you need a break. You don't have to complete a long album in one sitting.
Notice what changes between songs: an abrupt ending, a slower track, a melody that returns later. There's no need to analyze the production or write a review. You can simply enjoy hearing a familiar song arrive in a different context.
When it ends, you can let the room stay quiet for a moment before choosing something else. One album isn't the only music you're allowed all weekend. It's just one listening experience you gave a beginning and an end.
