Everyday routines
Leave the first messages of the day for a few minutes and begin with a familiar morning task instead.

You switch off the alarm and a message catches your eye. Another follows, and suddenly you're handling the day before you've even reached the bathroom.
Try changing the order. Turn off the alarm, leave the phone where it is, and go brush your teeth. If you need to remain reachable, keep essential calls available while leaving news, social feeds, and routine messages unopened.
Have your toothbrush and toothpaste ready where you normally use them. Brush as your dental team recommends rather than rushing so you can get back to the screen. You don't need a new toothbrush or an app to make the sequence memorable.
Afterward, continue with washing your face, getting dressed, or breakfast. Check your phone when you're ready to begin responding.
This doesn't make every morning peaceful, and urgent responsibilities may sometimes come first. It gives you another default on the ordinary days: one small thing you chose to do before the notifications chose for you.
